Keeping Tomorrows Drivers safe this Halloween!

Posted by Tony Floyd on

From the scary trucks to the costumes, Halloween is a fun-filled time for kids and parents alike. However, it can pose dangers to young people and.

To ensure this year's festivity a trick-free treat, follow these simple safety tips courtesy of Treadwright Nation:

  • Choose a light-colored costume that is easily seen at night. Reflective tape or glow-in-the-dark tape to the front and back of the costume and to the trick-or-treat bag.  It is most important especially in remote areas that you follow this rule.  It is our #1 tip for safe trick-or-treating 2016.
  • Only buy a costume that is labeled "flame-retardant." This means the material won't burn. If you are making your own costume, use nylon or polyester materials, which are flame-retardant.
  • Avoid colored or decorative contact lenses, unless they have been prescribed by an eye doctor for your child.  Getting lenses stuck in your eye is not how any Treadwright family wants to spend their holiday.
  • Skip the candles, which may cause fires. A burning candle in a pumpkin may become a blazing fire if left unattended. Instead, use a glow stick (available in many colors) or flameless candle to safely illuminate your jack-o'-lantern.  Or, you can just use your headlights!
  • Plan your route in advance, try to stick to neighborhoods and homes and families that you are familiar with.  Map out the route before leaving the house with the little ghouls.
  • Avoid costumes that come with weapons.   Especially when moving around all night these props can get in the way.  If a costume needs a prop to be complete, make sure it is a plastic or rubber prop.
